Skill Level: Intermediate, Advanced
Bring 10-20 small/medium bisque-fired pieces of cone 7-10 clay and learn to load and fire a gas kiln. Discover the difference reduction firing with gas makes on glazes. Also, spend a few days taking your wheel-throwing skills to the next level.
Our class pace will determine much about how the week goes so this is a rough outline...
We begin the class on Sunday where we will settle in around 7pm. There is a brief studio orientation, meet and greet then we will begin prepping our pots to glaze. I want to also take this time to create our rough outline for the week. We will all discuss skill building demos for various needs of each student.
Example.... throwing taller, handles, lids, various forms. It's about tailoring the next few days to work on each specific needs.
Monday: All day is scheduled for glazing pots and loading the kiln. Weather will be a factor for loading
Tuesday: We finish up any possible glazing and brick up the door of the kiln.
Wednesday: We fire the kiln. After lighting we will keep a detailed log and make adjustments as necessary and discuss what we are doing and how it affects our firing. While the kiln fires, we will get to working on the wheel addressing the topics we discussed on Sunday Evening.
Thursday: Continue our projects more demos as requested and monitor kiln cooling.
Friday: We will unbrick the door, unload the kiln and discuss our work as it comes out of the kiln. Then it's time to finish up any projects, clean up the kiln area and studio and get ready for Show and Tell and Closing Ceremony.
Again, this is a ROUGH outline for the week.
